The Balcony: The Microcosm of the CityVisual Diary & Narrative Essay
And here as I stand in the balcony of my grandparents’ apartment, I reminisce
about the old days. This balcony used to be my portal to the street when I was a child. Looking at the street and the surrounding buildings now, the balcony is no longer the same as
it became discarded and isolated. It has changed over time in many ways both physically and functionally, mirroring the social changes that happened in the society since the 1970s.
This has, in turn, depicted the balcony as a social and cultural phenomenon, acting as
a microcosm of the city.
